Etihad-backed Jet Airways to set up UAE hub

Jet Airways, the Indian carrier in which Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways bought a 24 percent stake last month, is to setup a second hub in the UAE capital in order to operate its flights to the US, it has been reported.
The Indian carrier will operate its international routes from Mumbai via Abu Dhabi to then onwards to New York, Newark and Chicago, the Business Standard newspaper said.
The deal is part of Jet’s commercial agreement with Etihad and is currently before the Indian government for clearance.
The airline has also identified six cities from where Jet will fly directly to Abu Dhabi, including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram and Cochin Delhi and Mumbai. These cities routes are likely to come on stream by the end of 2013, the report said.
